This website serves as a repository for information about South Carolina plantations and the people who lived and worked on them. It includes data for more than 2,000 SC plantations.
We define a plantation as a large farm on which most of the work was done by slaves. Thus all the plantations we catalog were established before the Civil War.
South-Carolina-Plantations.com began with a box of index card notes written by Mrs. Johnie Rivers of Charleston while she was a volunteer for the South Carolina Historical Society.
This website was developed and is maintained by SCIWAY, the largest directory of South Carolina information on the Internet.
